Cultivating the Success of the Next Generation Of Audiologists
This week I had the opportunity to speak on one of my favorite topics - adult auditory rehab to third-year Doctor of Audiology students at ISU. They were all engaged and asked terrific questions.
I recently read a quote that leaders are like gardeners. As leaders, we are not only responsible for harvesting our own success but for cultivating the success of the next generation. So true!

Jacob was implanted as a toddler and today he attends the prestigious Wheaton College. He is gifted in science and math and travels across the USA competing in World Cube Association competitions for mechanical puzzles the most famous of these puzzles is the Rubik's Cube. He is AMAZING!

Using young children’s natural curiosity about science and nature can help them grow their listening and language skills. This open-ended activity can be tailored to the child’s needs, listening and language levels, and goals, and can be effective for toddlers through middle schoolers. Following the child’s lead, we explore the outdoors together. I use lots of words to describe what we are doing, seeing, and feeling. We notice sounds—kids playing, birds singing, a lawnmower, a bouncing ball, construction noises—and I encourage the child to share their observations. I use an egg carton for collecting and sorting flowers, buds, leaves, and plants.
