The
creator a SLP says, “The ability to
follow directions depends upon the child’s auditory sequential memory ability,
which is the ability to hold information in memory in the order it was
given. This ability develops over time. Children at 1 year of age begin
to carry out simple one step directions such as “ give me the cup.”
Between two and three years of age the child follows 2 step directions and by
the time they enter Kindergarten they should be able to follow at least a 3
step direction. Life and school are full of directives..”
