I love The Listening Song for guiding families of young children who are preparing for preschool. Kids learn the listening rules easily once set to music. I’ve sung it for years and vaguely recall a teacher singing it during a school visit or observations years ago.
Setting words to music actually helps a child’s brain learn them more quickly and retain them longer. That’s why we remember the lyrics of songs we sang as children, even if we haven’t heard them in years. Music is one of the few activities that involves using the whole brain. It is inherent in all cultures and can have surprising benefits for listening skill development, language learning, improving auditory memory, focusing attention, developing clear speech full of melody and also for physical coordination and development.
Music and songs encourages learning and build communication. Be sure to download the free 5 L's - Listening Rules for Spoken Language Learning resource to accompany this song.
