Listen & Draw: Let's Go Fly A Kite!

Let’s Go Fly A Kite is fifth in the popular Listen & Draw series. Listen & Draw activities can be played in a therapy setting, at home, school or during a teletherapy session.

  • Children listen to a springtime paragraph then draw the detailed descriptions they heard. Four short stories related to flying kites are read aloud by an adult line by line. The details can be easily simplified or information can be added to increase the complexity.

  • This Listen & Draw activity can build vocabulary, auditory comprehension, memory and sequencing skills which are beneficial for children learning spoken language.

    • Included are Listening and Spoken Language (LSL) tips specific to this activity and are appropriate for parents and professionals alike to encourage auditory learning.

Ling 6 Sound Test Cards For Daily Listening Checks - FREEBIE

Dr. Daniel Ling was much more than the name of the Six Sound Test, he was a colleague and friend of mine. When I relocated from Ohio in 1988, Dan referred my first auditory-verbal family in Illinois that later launched my private practice, the Auditory Verbal Center of Wheaton. A career highlight for me was the opportunity to share the stage with Dr. Ling at one of the "MASTER THERAPIST" workshops.

This set of Ling Six Sound Test cards is to be used with listening checks of a child’s hearing technology. For toddlers and young children pair the cards with real objects or toys to represent each of the Ling Sounds.

Dr. Ling was a pioneer of Auditory-Verbal practice, past-president of the AG Bell Association, a founding member of Auditory-Verbal International and the principles currently adopted for Listening and Spoken Language Specialists. Of his many contributions to the field, he is most known for the Ling Six Sound Test (Ling, 2006).

Two sizes of the Ling 6 Sound Test cards are available for free at my Listen With Lynn™ online TpT Shop.

Lickety Split - Auditory Memory & Recall

Lickety Split is a fast-paced game played swiftly back and forth between two players. It is a barrier game that targets auditory word recall, challenges auditory memory and processing speed. Improvement in the child’s ability to listen, remember and recall results in following more complex instructions, understanding detailed conversations and learning new information

Children that are deaf and hard of hearing with reduced auditory memory abilities may struggle to recall longer sentences, only remember part of what was said and find it hard to recall information they were told in the past and relate it to new learning. Memory boosting strategies and playing games like Lickety Split can boost a child’s spoken language, communication, literacy and academic skills.

Lickety Split can be played at home with family, at school and in Listening and Spoken Language therapy sessions. This week with the COVID - 19 Shelter in Place orders we played Lickety Split during teletherapy sessions. We followed the game rules and using the PDF of the game. I displayed one of the game boards for the “Listener” by sharing my screen on my teletherapy platform. We used the PDF annotation tools and the “Listener” marked off the picture on their game board with a yellow X. I promised to not peek at the boxes they crossed off and the game was a hit!
