Listen & Draw: At The Pool

At The Pool is the sixth in the popular Listen & Draw series. These auditory imagery activities target following directions while growing vocabulary, auditory memory and sequencing skills.

 
 

Children listen to detailed descriptions then draw summer pool scenes for four different children. Children listen then draw the four scenes on page 4 featuring the children or a separate piece of paper. Listen & Draw: At The Pool now has two levels - easy and complex directions. Details can be easily simplified or information added to increase the complexity to match the child’s listening and language goals. Do you know that children learning to speak in long and complex sentences is directly related to auditory memory skills?

Listening and Spoken Language (LSL) tips are included for parents and professionals alike to encourage auditory learning.

This activity is great as a barrier game in face to face sessions. or in teletherapy as shown below.

FOUND SOUNDS - Outdoor Scavenger Hunt

FOUND SOUNDS is one of the ten classic listening games from my Listen With Lynn’s Grinning From Ear to Ear resource.

1. Dogs bark, birds tweet, geese honk, sirens wail, bees buzz, balls bounce and the wind whispers. 

2. Point out that sounds at a distance are quiet and become louder when closer. 

3. Focus on sound localization skills. Begin by first, asking the child WHAT they hear. Then talk about WHERE the sound is coming from.

GRINNING FROM EAR TO EAR is a collection of classic ten kid-approved listening games. Players learn and practice vital skills of listening and communication while having tons of fun!!  

These kid-approved games:

  • No planning and very little prep

  • For one or more players

  • Well-loved by 5 - 12 year olds

  • Great for teletherapy and in-person sessions, distance learning and family fun

7. Found Sounds Outdoor Scavenger Hunt targets listening, identifying and localizing common outdoor sounds and their descriptors.

8. Ear To Ear - Back To Back targets listening, auditory processing, following and giving directions, joint attention, two-way communication skills and cooperation.

9. Do What You Hear Not What You See targets listening, following complex directions and auditory processing with distractions.

10. Draw A Rhyme targets listening, following directions, auditory closure, phonemic awareness, recognizing and generating rhyming words.
